The Process

Section 1 · Acorn Body

1. DMC 433

  • DMC 433

Outline the right side of the acorn with split stitch, then fill the area with long and short stitch, following the shape of the acorn.

2. DMC 434

  • DMC 434

Add DMC 434, blending it into DMC 433 with long and short stitches to create a smooth transition between the shades.

3. DMC 436

  • DMC 436

Outline the left side of the acorn with split stitch, then fill the remaining area with long and short stitch, blending DMC 436 into the previous shades.

4. DMC 422

  • DMC 422

Fill the remaining area of the acorn with DMC 422, blending it into the previous shades with long and short stitches to create smooth, natural transitions.

Section 2 · Acorn Cap

5. DMC 3862

  • DMC 3862

Outline the right side of the acorn cap with split stitch. Add two-wrap French knots across the right side, spacing them loosely to leave room for the other shades.

6. DMC 3863

  • DMC 3863

Outline the left side of the acorn cap with split stitch. Add two-wrap French knots across the center, extending some into both the left and right sides to blend naturally with DMC 3862.

7. DMC 3864

  • DMC 3864

Fill the remaining gaps with two-wrap French knots using DMC 3864, blending them evenly with the previous shades.

Section 3 · Leaf and Twig

8. DMC 610

  • DMC 610

Outline the leaf with DMC 610 using split stitch.

9. DMC 422

  • DMC 422

Embroider the tip of the leaf with DMC 422, extending the stitches slightly over the DMC 610 split-stitch outline. Then use DMC 422 to fill the inner section of the leaf.

10. DMC 612

  • DMC 612

Add DMC 612, blending it into DMC 422 to create a smooth transition between the shades.

11. DMC 610

  • DMC 610

Fill the remaining areas with DMC 610, blending it into the previous shades to create smooth transitions. Along the outer edge of the leaf, extend all stitches slightly beyond the split-stitch outline to create a clean, natural edge.

12. DMC 3781

  • DMC 3781

Embroider the lower part of the twig with DMC 3781 using split stitch, then add the center vein of the leaf using the same stitch and shade.

13. DMC 3032

  • DMC 3032

Fill the upper part of the branch with DMC 3032 using split stitch.

Section 4 · Details

14. Dark brown sewing thread

Using dark brown sewing thread, outline the lower edge of the branch and add the leaf veins. Add a few stitches beneath the acorn cap to create a subtle shadow, then add several stitches along the right side of the acorn for extra depth.

15. Gold metallic thread

Add a few stitches of gold metallic thread to the lighter left side of the acorn to create a subtle shimmer.

16. Finishing Touches

I added a few stitches of DMC 434 to create a smoother transition and add more depth. Take a moment to look at your embroidery and adjust it if needed — add any of the previous shades to deepen the shadows, brighten certain areas, or soften the transitions between colors.
